Tropicalia master Jards Macalé releases “Besta Fera”

Jards Macalé is known for his influential role in Brazil’s Tropicalia movement in the 1960s, having performed on many of the classic albums of that era.

His most recent release, “Besta Fera”, delivers some of the trends that were always present in popular Brazilian music, with the peculiar style of Macalé turning it wonderfully jazzy.

The tracks that mostly caught my attention are “Pacto de Sangue”, with a playful guitar and gracious urban rhythm, and “Longo Caminho do Sol”, with a fantastic choir of female voices over contagious samba beats, featuring São Paulo’s singer-songwriter Romulo Fróes.
