‘Desse Jeito’ features Teresa Cristina, Thiaguinho, Pretinho da Serrinha and Rachell Luz.
The singer Maria Rita released last Friday (19) her new EP Desse Jeito, the artist’s first studio work in four years. Celebrating 20 years of career, the singer debuts as a songwriter on two of the six new tracks, which features Teresa Cristina, Thiaguinho, Pretinho da Serrinha, and Rachell Luz.
Converted to Candomblé three years ago, in this work, she expresses faith in religion and love for samba, a genre she has adopted since Samba Meu (2007). In her first two albums, Maria Rita made an incursion into the roots of MPB, a genre the artist’s mother, Elis Regina (1945 – 1982), was one of its biggest stars.
Winner of eight Latin Grammys, Maria Rita, announced the new EP in a climate of those who celebrate the future. “This project is a point to the next 20, 40 years of what I understand to be my place in music – singer, producer, and songwriter. I seek to bring more people I admire, respect, and love closer; I seek to explore my limits, break my own glass roofs”, she said.
The artist’s last tour in the United States was in 2014, with great repercussion in the US press. Maria Rita lived in the country for eight years, from 1994 to 2001, with her father, pianist César Camargo Mariano, and graduated in Social Communication and Latin American Studies from New York University.
